How to Create an Outstanding Intro Video for Your ESL Application
Hello everyone, and welcome to a new post on LinguaEra!
In today’s post, I’ll be sharing some practical tips on what it takes to create an outstanding intro video — because in the ESL industry, your intro video is truly your business card.
It’s often the first (and sometimes the only) thing recruiters and students will see before deciding whether to work with you. So make sure to follow these steps carefully and give yourself the best chance to stand out.
1. Use a Phone Stand – Don’t Hold Your Phone
1. Use a Phone Stand and Keep Your Hands Visible
One of the most important things during your intro video is to make sure your hands are visible. When viewers can see your hands as you speak, it creates a sense of openness and builds trust. It also makes your communication feel more natural and engaging.
That’s why it's essential not to hold your phone while filming. Instead, place it on a stable surface or use a tripod or phone stand. A stable camera allows you to move more freely, use hand gestures, and maintain a confident posture throughout the video.
Remember, body language matters. An open and relaxed posture makes you appear more confident, approachable, and professional.
2. Use Natural Lighting Whenever Possible
Natural light gives the best image quality. The person watching your video should be able to see you clearly and comfortably, so lighting is one of the most important elements.
Try to record near a window during the daytime, when the natural light is soft and bright. Avoid filming in the dark or with strong shadows on your face. If you can’t use natural light, a simple ring light placed in front of you will do the job.
Also, pay attention to your background — use a neutral or white background so that you stay in focus. This makes your video look more polished and professional.
3.Make sure to smile in your intro video
During your intro video, aside from what you say, your attitude is what truly stands out—and it can be the deciding factor. A genuine smile creates the impression of a positive, approachable person, which is crucial in this line of work. Smile naturally. Here’s a simple trick: while recording, imagine someone or something that always brings a smile to your face. This will help you relax and come across as warm and confident.
4. Look neat, but not overly dressed up.
Wear light-colored clothing without too many details. If you’re a woman, you can wear makeup, but opt for a “no makeup” look or a clean, natural style. The most important thing in the video is to create a feeling of closeness with your viewer, and naturalness is the key to achieving that.
5. Don’t talk too much; focus on the most important points.
If you try to brag a lot in your video, it might seem good, but it actually isn’t. What matters is to speak only about what interests the viewer. Here’s my trick: imagine yourself as a student and write down on paper what you would want to hear from your chosen teacher. This will help you create a clear structure of what you need to say.
Thank you for this tips 🙏. It very helpful, I will have to make another intro video.
